Welcome. The Yale College Writing Center supports writers and writing teachers through the resources on this website, free tutoring at the Center and in the residential colleges, and through workshops about writing and teaching techniques.

The Writing Center’s mission supports the most fundamental aims of a liberal arts education: to help develop intellectual abilities and discipline that will enrich all aspects of life. If you need information or support for your writing, we hope you will find what you need on this site. If you have questions or suggestions, please contact us. Good luck with your writing.

Academic Integrity Quiz
The Writing Center has developed a ten question quiz to help students learn more about citing sources, avoiding plagiarism, and the rules for co-authoring work with other students. In the beta phase, nearly all students said the quiz taught them something they didn’t know before. You can access the quiz or learn more here; only you will see your answers and no record of your answers will be kept.
Writing Director wins Faculty Teaching Award
Alfred Guy, the R.W.B. Lewis Director of the Writing Center, was the 2014 winner of the Richard Brodhead teaching prize at Yale. The award highlighted students’ sense that his teaching creates space “for a meaningful conversation in which every member of the class can participate.” In the video linked below, Guy discusses what excites him about teaching Yale undergraduates.
